Habit Forming Continued

It's been four months since my last post. I'm nearing some final touches on my riding "habit". I've commissioned a new hennin with a butterfly veil. This should complete the clothing nicely. Antique gold silk with a creme colored veil with pearls and goldwork.

Once the final touches are finished, I will post a picture of the completed look.

Then it's on to the saddle.

How nice! I can't wait to see it. I rode side saddle on my retired horse and I'm hoping to start my young mare in the saddle sometime this summer. Glad to see you like Dr. Cook as well--I've had great results too!

Thanks...and no...I can't top your "OMG wedding moment". :-o

Side saddle is a lot of fun, I just wish that I had one that truly fit my horse. She's just not built for it, but I'm thinking that the medieval approach might be the way to go.

It's been a good transition for my horse to go with Dr. Cook's. This winter should be fun.

Horse archery? Do you practice it?

:) I think my heart stopped! He was NOT supposed to jump.

I did archery with the chestnut NSH in the sidesaddle picture. He was 19 then and is currently retired and being verrryy lazy.

As a wedding present, I got a beastly little mare whose sole positive was her movement. It took about a year and a half for me to get her to where I think a young horse should be, as far as skill base/knowledge level.

I shoot in the indoor with her, and after I get her going fairly well under saddle, I will be doing a bit from there. At a walk!

One of my professors found out that I practiced mounted archery with my old horse and they are trying to get me involved with a ren fair as a demo. I keep thinking well, that would be great except I don't shoot with this little mare yet! I don't have a problem with dressing her up but I don't really see my shooting in public with her yet.

It is a process of relearning, as I ride dressage and my old horse was so just *bam* that you could collect him off of your seat. Being old and cranky he enjoyed doing something off the wall (and scaring the d.q.s that we were around!). My little mare has a looong way to go before she's anywhere near as good as he was (and is)!

It's nice to see someone else that rides side saddle. Missile was really fat in the picture and the saddle fit him then but not now! Kit has the shoulders of a bull, and oddly enough, the saddle is perfect on her--enough room to allow her to muscle up from work and everything. I'm really hoping that I can do something with her in the summer...maybe a parade? I would love to eventually learn to jump sidesaddle, but no one around here knows anything about it.

Sorry for book! Finals brain blurb kind of thing...
